Ruud van Nistelrooy was the topscorer in the Dutch Eredivisie for two consecutive seasons (1998/99 and 1999/2000 seasons) in the colours of PSV Eindhoven. He banged in 31 goals in 34 matches in the 1998/1999, the highest season total in the Eredivisie and second-highest in Europe overall. He also capped off the year by winning the Dutch Player of the Year award. Since then, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink of Holland, Ruud van Nistelrooy of Holland, Thierry Henry of France (four times), Didier Drogba of Cote d' Ivoire (two times), Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, Nicholas Anelka of France, Dimitar Berbatov of Bulgaria and Carlos Tevez of Argentina (joint top scorer in the 2010/2011 season) have won the prestigious plaque.
