DO YOU KNOW THE SECOND AFRICAN PLAYER TO SCORE A CENTURY OF GOALS IN THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE?

Nigeria's Yakubu Aiyegbeni aka The Yak is the first Nigerian player to score 100 goals in the prestigious English Premier League (EPL) since he started his sojourn with Portsmouth in 2003. He has scored EPL goals for Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers where he made it 101 goals which was against Wigan Athletic in the 2011/2012 season.

Yakubu became the second African striker to score a century of goals after Chelsea FC’s Didier Drogba who is Ivorian.

HOW MANY SEASONS DID DIDIER DROGBA SPENT AT OLYMPIQUE MARSEILLE BEFORE JOINING CHELSEA FC IN 2004?

Signed from Guingamp for a fee of £3.3 million by Olympique Marseille in the summer of 2003,  Didier Drogba spent just one season at the Stade Valedrome

He appeared in 35 games and scored 19 goals in all competition especially the 5 goals he scored in the UEFA Champions League and 6 goals he delivered in the UEFA Cup in that same season. 

He subsequently signed for Chelsea FC in the summer of 2004 for £24 million under Jose Mourinho till 2012 where he became their fourth highest goalscorer of all time with 157 goals in all official competition behind of Frank Lampard.

Wayne Rooney of Manchester United Football Club follows Les Ferdinand, Ian Wright and Didier Drogba in becoming only the fourth player in the English Premier League (EPL) history to achieve a second hat-trick in successive EPL matches after his treble against Arsenal FC on Sunday 28th August 2011 and Bolton Wanderers on Saturday 10th September, 2011 at the Reebok Stadium.

DID YOU KNOW THE LAST ENGLISH BORN PLAYER TO FINISH TOP SCORER IN THE EPL?

The last English born player to finish top scorer in the English Premier League (EPL) was Kevin Phillips of Sunderland with 30 goals in the 1999/2000 season. Since then, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink of Holland, Ruud van Nistelrooy of Holland, Thierry Henry of France (four times), Didier Drogba of Cote d' Ivoire (two times), Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, Nicholas Anelka of France, Dimitar Berbatov of Bulgaria and Carlos Tevez of Argentina (joint top scorer in the 2010/2011 season) have won the prestigious plaque.
