DO YOU KNOW THE TWO REAL MADRID MANAGERS SINCE 1989 THAT HAVE SURVIVED TWO CALENDAR YEARS?

Since the year 1989, only Vicente del Bosque and Jose Mourinho have survived 2 calendar years as Real Madrid manager.


In 1999/2000, Del Bosque took over from John Toshack in November 1999 and he lasted till June 2003 when his contract was not renewed. 

Mourinho took over the Real Madrid managerial reigns from Manuel Pellegrini in July 2010 after he led Inter Milan to a treble of the Italian Serie A, Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League in the highly successful 2009/2010 season. He threw in the towel at the Santiago Bernabeu in May 2013.

Italian gaffer, Luciano Spalletti who currently manages Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia, famously devised the false 9 formula from which a Francesco Totti-inspired AS Roma to entertain the world and that system ensured the Giallorossi experienced significant back to back Coppa Italia success in 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 seasons.

DO YOU KNOW THE INTER MILAN LEGEND THAT HIS NUMBER 3 JERSEY WAS RETIRED FOR HIS EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE CLUB?

Giacinto Facchetti who played his whole football career for Inter Milan as one of the first truly great attacking-full backs, and one of the best ever in his position from 1960 to 1978, played 634 official games and scored 75 goals.  

Facchetti won 4 Italian Serie A Scudetto in 1962/1963, 1964/1965, 1965/1966 and 1970/1971 seasons; one Coppa Italia in 1978; two European Cups (now UEFA Champions League) in 1963/1964 and 1964/1965; and two Intercontinental Cups in 1964 and 1965.

His number 3 jersey he wore for Inter Milan all through his career was retired posthumously in his honour after he died of pancreatic cancer in Milan on September 4, 2006 as the club President.

DO YOU KNOW THE ONLY EUROPEAN COUNTRY THAT HELD ALL THREE EUROPEAN CLUB TROPHIES IN ONE SEASON?

 Italy is the only country to have won all three European club diadems in the 1989/1990 season. AC Milan won the UEFA Champions Cup (now UEFA Champions League), the UEFA Cup Winners Cup was clinched by Sampdoria and the UEFA Cup was captured by Juventus FC. Interestingly, all three teams were beaten by AS Roma in the 1990/1991 Coppa Italia campaign.

IS GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI THE MOST SUCCESSFUL CLUB MANAGER IN ITALIAN FOOTBALL?

Giovanni Trapattoni aka Trap is one of the most successful Italian club manager of all time. In 8 years from 1978 - 1986, he guided the Old Lady of Turin Juventus F.C. to the Toyota Intercontinental Cup (now FIFA World Club Cup), UEFA Champions Cup (now UEFA Champions League), UEFA Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Cup (all now merged as the UEFA Europa League), UEFA Super Cup, 7 Italian Serie A calcios and 2 Coppa Italia. He recently claim he turn down an offer to rejoin the club to stay put as Manager of the Republic of Ireland.

DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS MAN WON IT ALL

The first man to win all five major international trophies was Gaetano Scirea, who played for Juventus and Italy from 1975 to 1987. He won the FIFA World Cup in Espana 1982, UEFA Champions Cup (now UEFA Champions League) in 1985, the defunct UEFA Cup Winners Cup and the defunct UEFA Cup (all now the UEFA Europa Cup), UEFA Super Cup, Toyota Intercontinental Club Cup (now the FIFA World Club Cup), seven Scudetti titles and 2 Coppa Italia in a glitterring career as a defender, he was never sent-off in 686 career matches.
