The second largest football stadium in the world by capacity is now the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, West Bengal, India which can hold 120,000 people. It was open for use in January 1984. It is owned by the Indian Football Association and the surface is currently Astroturf. The stadium covers an area of 76.40 acres (309,200 m2). The largest football stadium by capacity is the Rungnado May Day Stadium in Pyongyang in North Korea which can accommodate 150,000 spectators.
