Iranian Ali Daei is the all time top scorer in the AFC Asian Cup with 14 goals scored in all his participation in his while he got the Golden Boot award in the 1996 edition which was his first hosted by United Arab Emirates and won by Saudi Arabia. By the end of the 1996 Asian Cup, Daei had scored 29 goals in 38 appearances for Iran. which made the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), to name him the world's top scorer in official international competitions in the year 1996.
