With the introduction of English Premier League (EPL) squad numbers for the 1993/1994 season, Mike Phelan, current Manchester United Assistant Manager was issued with the number 23 shirt by his boss, Sir Alex Ferguson which was next worn by Phil Neville. The former Norwich City man didn't get a winners medal because he didn't play enough games for it, but was awarded in the inaugural 1992/1993 season. The number 23 is currently been worn by Tom Cleverley.

In 1987, Viv Anderson is the last Arsenal FC player to move to Manchester United before Robin van Persie did in August 2012.  

Anderson was the first ever signing of Sir Alex Ferguson as he consolidate on his new post at Old Trafford in a bitter £250,000 deal which the Gunners bemoaned the deal as then manager George Graham had no obvious replacement for the defender.

Dutchman Edwin van der Sar in the 2010/2011 season, a few months after his 40th birthday, became the oldest man to make the PFA Team of the Year as a goalkeeper in the English Premier League (EPL) while he was at Manchester United. He signed for the club on June 10, 2005 for a reported fee of £2 million and played 186 times till he retired on May 28, 2011. Sir Alex Ferguson considers him the best goalkeeper to have played for the club since Peter Schmeichel.

Sir Alex Ferguson was appointed manager at Old Trafford on November 6th, 1986. His first game in charge of Manchester United FC was a 2–0 defeat at underdogs Oxford United on November 8th, 1986, followed 7 days later by a goalless draw at newly promoted Norwich City.

Cristiano Ronaldo became Manchester United FC's first-ever Portuguese player when he signed for £12.24 million after the 2002–03 season from Sportin Lisbon after defeating Manchester United FC 3–1 in the inauguration of the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon for the Euro 2004 UEFA European Championship that was held in Portugal. Ronaldo's performance impressed the Manchester United FC players, who urged Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him.
