He also remains joint 16th in the all-time England scorers list, level with Kevin Keegan.

Georgian Temuri Ketsbaia newly signed from AEK Athens in the summer of 1997 on a free transfer, scored the crucial goal that qualified Newcastle United for the UEFA Champions League against Croatia Zagreb in extra time for the first time under Kevin Keegan. He is currently the manager of the Georgian national team.

On 3 April 1996, Newcastle United managed by Kevin Keegan lost 4-3 at Anfield Road to Liverpool FC in one of the more thrilling games played in the English Premier League (EPL). The lead changed four times, Newcastle United were ahead 3-2 with 22 minutes to go, but were confounded by a 90th-minute Stan Collymore coup de grace. Newcastle United had great players like Faustino Asprilla, David Ginola, Les Ferdinand, Alan Shearer, Rob Lee and Peter Beardsley while Liverpool had greats like David James, Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler, Jason McAteer and John Barnes in the twilight of his career.
