In an important France 1998 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Northern Ireland on August 20, 1997, Oliver Bierhoff scored the fastest hat-trick ever in the German National Team history in 7 minutes as a substitute which fellow sub Thomas Hassler provided the three assists. He went on to score 37 goals in  70 caps from 1996 to 2002.

With 69 caps and 45 goals, Davor Šuker is the Vatreni (The Blazers) of Croatia all time Top Scorer that was formed in 1990 after it broke off with Yugoslavia. He only represented the defunct Yugoslavia twice in 1991 with a goal to show for it. 

He was the second best goal banger with 6 goals for Yugoslavia in the Chile 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship with friend and Golden Boot winner at France 1998 FIFA World Cup with 6 goals for Croatia. Of the 45 goals he scored for Croatia, all but 8 were scored with his left foot, 4 with the head and right a piece.

Andoni Zubizarreta, the legendary Spanish and F.C. Barcelona goalkeeper is still the most capped player for the La Furia Roja with 127 which started on 23rd of January 1985, in a 3–1 friendly victory over Finland. It ended on the 24th of June, 1998 in their last France 98 FIFA World Cup Group D game against the Лъвовете (The Lions) of Bulgaria in Lens after an infamous blunder in his first match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria that led to a shock defeat. He is now the Director of Football at FC Barcelona.
