The first league in Belgian football now known as the Belgian Jupiler Pro League was held in 1895/1896 as a round-robin tournament with 7 teams: Antwerp FC, FC Brugeois, FC Liége, RC de Bruxelles, Léopold Club de Bruxelles, SC de Bruxelles and Union d'Ixelles. FC Liége became the first league champion of Belgium in that season.
