He was the top domestic scorer on 7 occasions and was the all time top scorer in the FIFA World Cup until June 27, 2006 with 14 goals. Brazilian forward Ronaldo de Lima scored his 15th goal against the Black Stars of Ghana in Germany 2006 FIFA World Cup which broke Muller's tally. It was equalled by his countryman, Miroslav Klose in South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup.
